Airport Firefighters Participate In Fire Prevention Week

Fire Departments everywhere open their doors and invite the public inside as part of Fire Prevention Week each year. Gates Fire District held their open house at Station 2 on Long Pond Rd. yesterday and Airport Firefighters were among the public safety professionals there to show off their equipment and educate the public on what we do every day.

Visitors were invited to look at Rescue 5, a 2013 OshKosh Striker 1500, and see the inside of the cab along with the tools and equipment we carry onboard. Two members of Local 1636 were on hand to answer any questions people had about the responsibilities of an Airport Firefighter, and how we help protect the entire community - both on and off the airport.

This is the second open house to showcase our equipment as Rescue 5 was also at a Brighton Fire Department open house last week. One more appearance is scheduled at St. Paul Blvd. Fire Department, 433 Cooper Rd. in Irondequoit this coming Saturday, October 13.
